Experience RV Life: Exploring Route 66 Over 7 Epic Days

RV Life on Route 66: Woman joyfully points at vintage RV in a sunny campground.

The Great American Road Trip Begins

In the spirit of adventure, over the next seven days, we’re embarking on a journey along the iconic Route 66, staying at different RV parks and traveling a whopping 700 miles! As we dive into our first day, we’re embracing the thrill of spontaneity with three essential rules: no reservations, visit a famous Route 66 attraction each day, and complete personal challenges we've set for ourselves. This series aims to rekindle the romantic allure of the American road trip, and our first stop is at Blazing Saddle RV Park in Tucumcari, New Mexico, a charming spot priced just right at $43 for full hookups.

In We Tried 7 RV Parks in 7 Days on Route 66 - Day 1, the discussion dives into the excitement of RV travel, exploring key insights that sparked deeper analysis on our end.

RV Life: The Challenges and Rewards

RVing can certainly come with its unique set of challenges, and day one was no exception. We distinctly remember our flag waving goodbye to the comfort of knowing our itinerary. Instead, we let the spontaneity of life lead the way—hoping for availability at each RV park, and today was a success! Such flexibility is part of what makes the RV lifestyle so thrilling. And on this journey, we decided to face the challenge of maintaining our fitness; while one of us aims to conquer seven miles daily, the other is aiming for 10,000 steps per day. This commitment makes every day an adventure, both on the road and for our health.

Roadside Attractions on Route 66

What would a road trip be without some quirky stops? Our first day led us to the world's largest flip-flop, and although it sounds ridiculous, it brought a giggle and a sense of excitement. The roadside attractions of Route 66 are filled with these types of oddities, which keep the journey entertaining and engaging. Later, we ventured on to the Midpoint Cafe, which boasts its claim to fame as the halfway point between Santa Monica and Chicago—a must-visit for anyone traveling this historic highway.

RV Safety: Essential Tips for Travelers

As we made our way through Texas and rolled into Amarillo, we found ourselves confronted with practical RV safety concerns, particularly concerning our sewer system. Enter the valve valve—a simple yet crucial device for preventing messy mishaps. Such a device is a small investment that could save considerable embarrassment down the line. This journey is not only a celebration of exploration but also a chance to share practical insights on maintaining one's RV while embracing the freedom of the road.

The Best RV Park: Amarillo RV Resort

Arriving at the Amarillo RV Resort, we were welcomed into a delightful facility that exceeded our expectations. $65 for full hookups felt slightly higher than Tucumcari, but the amenities make it worthwhile! Featuring an indoor pool, landscaped green areas, and cozy spaces for gathering, this park has quickly stolen our hearts. The important part of staying at these campgrounds is not just about a place to park but the joy of finding a community, making memories, and sharing stories with fellow travelers.

Reflecting on All We've Accomplished

As we wrapped up a rewarding first day, we couldn't help but feel accomplished. Both of us succeeded in our daily challenges and thoroughly enjoyed the features of our cozy initial RV park. Not to mention the fun at Cadillac Ranch, where the vibrant spray-painted cars stand as symbols of creativity and eclecticism synonymous with Route 66. Be sure to stay tuned as we continue our journey. Tomorrow brings new places to explore and fresh challenges to tackle!

So, are you ready to dive into the RV life with us? Join us for the next installment of our journey where we share the ins and outs of full-time RV living while taking in the breathtaking Route 66!
